Happy Mother’s Day to all!
I’d like to say, that I know for some, this day can be full of loneliness, or pain, or sorrow, or all of the above. I give great thanks that our Father in Heaven who foresaw the trials that his children would go through here upon the earth, has provided a way for all of us to receive joy and eternal life. That plan came at the cost of His only begotten Son, but He and his Son were willing to pay the price for us.
To mothers whose children are no longer with them due to sickness, accident, or the unspeakable acts of others, you have the promise that all will be resurrected, and that you can be reunited with them again. That was the plan from the very beginning…that families would transcend even death…and that families can indeed be forever.
To the mothers who were never able to have children, let me share with you the wise words of a Stake Patriarch and a Bishop who taught me that sometimes God withholds blessings from people in this world…so that He may bless them with those very blessings in the next. It is pointless to ask “why.” The “why” doesn’t really matter at this point. What is important to know is that God’s purpose is to make each and every one of His children the very best that we can be. If delaying the blessing of children until the world to come is required to make us the best that we can be…He will do so…for OUR benefit…and for our mutual joy.
If by chance you are unable to have children in your home due to decisions that you have made…recall that the scriptures teach us that sins can be forgiven through repentance and through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Your ability to be a Mother may be compromised in THIS world through decisions you have made, but through faith and repentance you can retain the blessing of children in the eternities to come. You haven’t lost out on that blessing…only delayed it for a time.
So no matter where you find yourself in the currents and flows of life, Mothers Day brings reason for joy to all who walk the earth. If you hurt today, I am so sorry for your grief…but take heart and courage in the fact that God has not forgotten you, and that the path to your joy, even the path to children in your home…be it an earthly home or a Celestial home…is not taken from you.
And with those thoughts I give a heartfelt “Happy Mother’s Day” to all!
